Building And Pest Inspections – Keeping Unwanted Guests From Your New House

Building and pest inspections are an essential step in the purchase of a new home or investment property. There are certain things you can look for while you’re on the house-hunting circuit – like checking the proximity of gardens and trees to the walls of the house – but a professional building inspection is important before you sign anything. Bee Pest Control  in Minnesota

Wasps and bees are beneficial insects, although they are generally considered to be pests because of their ability to sting. Wasps, in particular, can become a problem in autumn when they may disrupt many outdoor activities. People often mistakenly call all stinging insects “bees”. While both social wasps and bees live in colonies ruled by queens and maintained by workers, they look and behave differently. It is important to distinguish between these insects because different methods may be necessary to control them if they become a nuisance. (more…)

Beware of Box Elder Bugs

IDENTIFICATION

Adult box elder bugs are about ½ inches long, black with orange or red markings, including three strips on the prothorax, the area right behind the head. Their wings lay flat over their bodies, overlapping each other to form an ‘X’. The immature nymphs are 1/16th-inch long and bright red when they first hatch. As they grow older and become larger, they are red and black. You can potentially see all stages at any given time during the summer. (more…)

Minnesota Bed Bug Infestation, Part III

Think you might have bed bugs?  See below for additional answers to your questions.

Bed bugs look similar to wood ticks.  They are small (about 1/16 to 1/4 inch long), brown or tan and oval-shaped.  They do not have wings.  After feeding, the bed bug will change from brown in color to purplish red, much like a wood tick, and the average life span of a bed bug is just short of a year, or about eleven months.  Bed bugs mostly hide in rooms where people sleep.  They can be found under the box spring of your bed, in and around a mattress and in and around a bed frame.

If you have noticed red, itchy bites which often occur in rows on your body and/or red stains on your sheets and/or bed, it’s time to call Eco Tech for a free consultation.  We will do a full inspection to diagnose the problem and start immediately with our organic treatment of the infestation.  We offer 24/7 emergency service and serve the entire Twin Cities Metro Area.  Please, don’t delay.  The longer you wait to treat the bed bug infestation, the further the bed bugs will spread.

Bed Bugs

Minnesota Bed Bug Infestation, Part II

Bed Bug

Bed Bug

You may remember that old saying, “Don’t let the bed bugs bite!”  We were always taught that bed bugs don’t really exist any more and not to be scared of them.  Well, they are back.  Due to a resurgence of bed bugs in the United States, infestations have become an issue in recent years.

While bed bugs are known to carry several diseases, research has shown they do not transmit any to humans.  Bed bugs do not care how clean or dirty the home they infest is; they are just looking for food.  Bed bugs feed on human blood, much as a wood tick does.  They are nocturnal creatures, and very shy.  They normally venture out of, say, a bed when they do not detect any movement.  This is why most people bitten by bed bugs have been bitten at night while sleeping.  Bed bugs travel to your home on your clothing and in your bags after visiting a hotel or another family’s home with an infestation.  They are at five-star hotels and $10.00-a-night places; they have moved in, and they travel fast.

If you think you may have a bed bug problem, call Eco Tech today.  We offer 24/7 emergency service and serve the entire Twin Cities Metro Area. Just call us at 763-785-1414 for more information.  With our free consultation, we will diagnose the problem immediately and begin our organic treatment of the infestation.  Eco Tech, your “green, clean pest control solution”.

Green Eco-Friendly Pest Removal in Minnesota – Silverfish, Part II

What do Silverfish eat?  Will I get sick if they are in my home? Will my kids get sick?  These are some of the common questions we get about these annoying insect pests.

The good news:  you will probably not get sick from silverfish in your home, and neither will your pets or children.  There has never been a study that we are aware of that proves silverfish make you sick.  The bad news:  what they eat.  Unfortunately, silverfish feed on things such as silk, synthetic fabrics and cotton.  In other words, they are eating your clothing and furniture upholstery.  It can be very unnerving to put on a pair of pants or a shirt and have a silverfish come crawling out.  Also, these nasty pests prefer a moist environment, so you will often find them crawling around your kitchen sink (embarrassing when company is around), bathroom and basement.  These rooms typically have some degree of moisture, so it is likely you would have them here.  Finally, and most disturbing, silverfish, given their size and shape, can and do easily get into your foodstuffs and eat them, or lay eggs in the packaging (i.e. cereal, flour, sugar, crackers, etc.).

If you have been seeing an alarming number of silverfish in your home, call the experts at Ecotech today.  We will answer any questions you may have, remove the infestation, and keep these critters from coming back.

Green Eco-Friendly Pest Removal in Minnesota – Silverfish, Part I

Although Silverfish are generally nuisance insects rather than harmful, we get numerous calls regarding these insects.  Silverfish can infest in large numbers, and with the wet season, we have seen some large infestations.

These fast-moving insects are about ¼ to ½ inch long, have tapered oval shaped bodies, and have no wings.  The tail end of the silverfish is tapered and the head is larger.  They have six legs, long antennae and three tail-like appendages on the tips of their abdomens.  Like their name implies, they are silver in color.

If you suspect you have a silverfish infestation and it is more to you than just a nuisance, give Ecotech a call today.  One of our friendly, knowledgeable associates can remove them from your home without harsh chemicals or pesticides, so you can feel comfortable having them removed even with pets and/or children around.

Beetles in Minnesota

Asian Lady Beetles, Part III – Problems Occurring From Infestation

The Asian Lady Beetle has become a nuisance on Minnesota for many reasons.  Their large numbers, especially in the fall, can lead them into our homes.

The Asian Lady Beetle is not known to carry any diseases.  However, while searching for food, they can inadvertently bite hard enough to break human skin, causing discomfort.  While the beetles do not sting, it can be very uncomfortable to be enjoying the outdoors and run into a swarm of these beetles and be bitten several times.

This beetle also secretes a strong-smelling liquid from their legs.  This liquid not only smells badly, but can also stain surfaces, such as clothing or outdoor furniture.  If the pests enter your home, staining can occur on your furniture, towels, carpet or clothing as well.

Yet another issue occurring as a result of an Asian Lady Beetle infestation is the diet of these beetles.  Since the Asian Lady Beetle feeds on aphids and other lady beetle varieties which can be beneficial to the ecosystem naturally occurring in your yard, the natural balance can be put off-kilter if you have a significant number of these beetles.

If you suspect you have an Asian Lady Beetle infestation, call the friendly experts at Eco Tech today for a free consultation.  Our green approach to pest control through our line of earth-friendly organic products is the best solution for your family’s pest control needs.  Call today for a free consultation!
