Bed bugs have made a recent resurgence all across the United States as well as worldwide and are now being found in high-end hotels, apartment complexes, hospitals and even college residence halls. Bed Bug Infestation

Bedbugs usually cluster together in favorable harborage areas.  However, some bedbugs will live by themselves, away from the majority of the infestation.

Signs of Bed Bugs

The best way to see if you have an infestation is to look for bedbugs where you rest and where you usually set down luggage (or bags) when you enter the house.  Your luggage and places where your luggage may be stored are also some of the first areas to look. (more…)

Minnesota Bed Bug Infestation, Part III

Think you might have bed bugs?  See below for additional answers to your questions.

Bed bugs look similar to wood ticks.  They are small (about 1/16 to 1/4 inch long), brown or tan and oval-shaped.  They do not have wings.  After feeding, the bed bug will change from brown in color to purplish red, much like a wood tick, and the average life span of a bed bug is just short of a year, or about eleven months.  Bed bugs mostly hide in rooms where people sleep.  They can be found under the box spring of your bed, in and around a mattress and in and around a bed frame.

If you have noticed red, itchy bites which often occur in rows on your body and/or red stains on your sheets and/or bed, it’s time to call Eco Tech for a free consultation.  We will do a full inspection to diagnose the problem and start immediately with our organic treatment of the infestation.  We offer 24/7 emergency service and serve the entire Twin Cities Metro Area.  Please, don’t delay.  The longer you wait to treat the bed bug infestation, the further the bed bugs will spread.

Minnesota Bed Bug Infestation, Part II

Bed Bug

You may remember that old saying, “Don’t let the bed bugs bite!”  We were always taught that bed bugs don’t really exist any more and not to be scared of them.  Well, they are back.  Due to a resurgence of bed bugs in the United States, infestations have become an issue in recent years.

While bed bugs are known to carry several diseases, research has shown they do not transmit any to humans.  Bed bugs do not care how clean or dirty the home they infest is; they are just looking for food.  Bed bugs feed on human blood, much as a wood tick does.  They are nocturnal creatures, and very shy.  They normally venture out of, say, a bed when they do not detect any movement.  This is why most people bitten by bed bugs have been bitten at night while sleeping.  Bed bugs travel to your home on your clothing and in your bags after visiting a hotel or another family’s home with an infestation.  They are at five-star hotels and $10.00-a-night places; they have moved in, and they travel fast.

If you think you may have a bed bug problem, call Eco Tech today.  We offer 24/7 emergency service and serve the entire Twin Cities Metro Area. Green Eco-Friendly Pest Removal in Minnesota – Silverfish, Part III

Why do I always find silverfish hiding in my bookshelf?  Why do I move boxes in my basement and find more silverfish even after I have squished several?

Silverfish will generally eat just about anything, including paper.  This includes wallpaper (and its glue, so your wallpaper could become seriously damaged in spots with a serious infestation), books, leather, paper, fur, and as mentioned in the last installment, cotton, silk and many other kinds of fabrics.  Silverfish are active at night and hide during the day, so if you move a box or a pile of books during the day and find them, they were probably hiding there waiting for nighttime.  A female adult silverfish will generally lay about 3 eggs per day and she lays them in small wall crevices or cracks in the floor, or even under boxes or books.  So even if you squish a few, several more are waiting to take their place.

If you are tired of these pests ruining your day, please call the friendly experts at Ecotech today.  We will get rid of your silverfish problem once and for all, and keep them from coming back.

Green Eco-Friendly Pest Removal in Minnesota – Silverfish, Part II

What do Silverfish eat?  Will I get sick if they are in my home? Will my kids get sick?  These are some of the common questions we get about these annoying insect pests.

The good news:  you will probably not get sick from silverfish in your home, and neither will your pets or children.  There has never been a study that we are aware of that proves silverfish make you sick.  The bad news:  what they eat.  Unfortunately, silverfish feed on things such as silk, synthetic fabrics and cotton.  In other words, they are eating your clothing and furniture upholstery.  It can be very unnerving to put on a pair of pants or a shirt and have a silverfish come crawling out.  Also, these nasty pests prefer a moist environment, so you will often find them crawling around your kitchen sink (embarrassing when company is around), bathroom and basement.  These rooms typically have some degree of moisture, so it is likely you would have them here.  Finally, and most disturbing, silverfish, given their size and shape, can and do easily get into your foodstuffs and eat them, or lay eggs in the packaging (i.e. cereal, flour, sugar, crackers, etc.).

If you have been seeing an alarming number of silverfish in your home, call the experts at Ecotech today.  We will answer any questions you may have, remove the infestation, and keep these critters from coming back.
