Bed bugs are small wingless parasitic insects that live by feeding on the blood of warm blooded-animals including animals.  They are very elusive and hide during the day, only coming out at night to feed.  This is   why most people find out they have these nasty insects when the wake up and have bites on them.  Their nymphs are tiny, about the size of a poppy seed, while adults can grow to about 1/4 of an inch long. They have flat oval bodies that allow them to hide in very small places such as the folds of a mattress or under baseboards.   When disturbed they will quickly scurry to find a hiding place. (more…)

Is The Cure For Bed Bugs Worse Than The Pests?

Bloodsucking bed bugs have made a comeback in recent years. But as victims of infestation have become increasingly desperate to rid their homes of the bedeviling pests, many have only done themselves more harm.

Bed bugs do not transmit disease or cause illness — but the insecticides used to kill them do. A total of 111 illnesses associated with bed bug-related insecticides were reported in seven states between 2003 and 2010 (mostly in the last three years), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said. Most cases of poisoning were not severe, but the data included one death. (more…)

Information For Travelers | Holiday Travel and Bed Bugs

When staying in a hotel it is a good idea to inspect your room for bed bugs as soon as you arrive. You do not want to unpack or settle in until you have checked to see if there are bed bugs in your room.

Bring a small flashlight with you when going to stay at a hotel; this will make it easier to inspect your room. As soon as you arrive, keep your suitcase on the floor away from the bed or place it in the bathroom. These areas are less likely to have bed bugs. Never put your suitcase, clothes or personal items on the bed as this is the most common way to get bed bugs in your possessions and transfer them to your home. (more…)
