Information For Travelers | Holiday Travel and Bed Bugs

When staying in a hotel it is a good idea to inspect your room for bed bugs as soon as you arrive. You do not want to unpack or settle in until you have checked to see if there are bed bugs in your room.

Bring a small flashlight with you when going to stay at a hotel; this will make it easier to inspect your room. As soon as you arrive, keep your suitcase on the floor away from the bed or place it in the bathroom. These areas are less likely to have bed bugs. Never put your suitcase, clothes or personal items on the bed as this is the most common way to get bed bugs in your possessions and transfer them to your home. (more…)

Tips For Travelers Worried About Getting Bed Bugs

Worried about bedbugs on your next hotel stay? The mere mention of the critters probably makes you itchy. Bed bugs are skilled travelers. They can hitch a ride into your home on used furniture (upholstered AND wooden pieces; they love small spaces, and can both hide and lay eggs in the tiniest crack). They can infest your luggage via hotel rooms and taxi trunks (a favorite hiding place). They can hop between garments in a coat check. Bottom line: Don’t think they can’t get to you. Know what they look like and how to  get rid of them.

Avoid Bed Bug Infestations This Holiday Season

With the arrival of the holiday season, people all across the country are eagerly anticipating festive decorations, giving and receiving gifts and gathering with family and friends around a roaring fire.

What people don’t usually expect is to encounter pests as they prepare for holiday festivities. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) suggests consumers take precautions against pests that can make their way into homes via holiday decorations, Christmas trees and even firewood. (more…)
